Balto was the Siberian Husky sled dog who led his team during the last leg of the serum run in 1925 in Alaska. There was a severe diphtheria outbreak in Nome, Alaska at that time, which threatened to wipe out Nome's children and other young people. The only medicine that could stop the outbreak was in Anchorage, 1,000 miles away. Balto's team was the last of 3 dog teams to carry the serum, and delivered it into Nome. He was a hero because his team was caught in a white-out, and although his musher did not know the way in the storm, Balto pressed on and found the trail and got them to Nome.

Because he was either going to be a Buster Brown or a Buddy or a Sandy because he's a yellow lab/dalmation mix and we thought Buster was most appropriate! We got him when he was 6 weeks old! He's now 7 years! He's just a good ol' fashioned lovable family dog! Very loyal and protective!
