We recently bought two kittens and had a time deciding on what to name them. Because of the recent release of the Star Trek film, it was all fresh in our thoughts. The name Uhura, one of the first major black characters on American television, just came out of my mouth when members of my family said that they wanted something that had to do with cats or with her color, which is black. Uhuru means freedom, and Uhura was a brave, heroic character, so any characteristics of hers passing onto the cat would be nice.
